Commerce Bank explains unexpected statement fees on accounts

KANSAS CITY, Mo — Commerce Bank customers may have noticed some strange charges posted to their accounts over the past week.

Some customers may have experienced multiple small charges, while others may have spotted only one charge.

The bank said it was in the process of refunding the money and there was no cause for concern.

“We are aware that some customers may have unexpected statement charges posted to their account. We apologize for the confusion. This is the result of an identified system issue, not any third-party activity. We have already canceled the transaction for many customers and will continue to automatically process credits for the remaining accounts,” Commerce Bank said in a statement to FOX4.

The company said customers don’t need to take any action to receive the refunds.

Customers who have questions about fees marked “statement fees” on their accounts should call Commerce Bank at 1-877-278-1744.
