BOYNE Golf Courses Named EZ-GO Green Ambassador

DETROIT – BOYNE Resorts in Michigan is proud to be honored as EZ-GO’s first Green Ambassador. Best known for its innovative line of premium golf cars, EZ-GO, a Textron Specialized Vehicles business, honors Michigan’s Magnificent 10 prestigious golf courses for their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

“The people of Michigan appreciate the beautiful state in which we raise our families, work and play,” said Josh Richter, senior vice president of golf operations at BOYNE. “We want to show others across the country that golf courses can operate successfully by putting sustainability first, ensuring we leave a positive legacy for future generations of golfers and outdoor enthusiasts.”

The Green Ambassador program is a new initiative by EZ-GO as part of its broader commitment to sustainability. To qualify as a Green Ambassador, a course measures one’s business initiatives on a numerical scale. Question topics in key sections include:

  • Habitat and water conservation
  • Facilities and buildings
  • Waste and recycling
  • Education, advocacy and community awareness

“We are very fortunate to have leaders like BOYNE in the golf industry, who prioritize not only improving the game of golf, but also creating a better and safer world,” said said Adam Harris, EZ-GO Vice President and General Manager for Textron Specialty Vehicles.

In 2021, BOYNE Resorts has committed to achieving net zero emissions across all of its 13 golf courses by 2030 – they call it the “ForeverProject”. From selective watering days and expanding natural areas around fairways, building buffer zones around waterholes and decreasing the frequency of fairway mowing, the ForeverProject now saves thousands of dollars and reduce emissions. Another key investment bringing positive change is BOYNE’s fleet of EZ-GO RXV ELiTE golf cars, which reduce charging time and energy consumption by more than 25% compared to vehicles powered by traditional lead-acid batteries.

“It’s important not just to talk about ways to be sustainable, but to turn conversations into actions,” said Mari Kissinger, Director of Sustainability at BOYNE Golf. “We are proud of the hard work to improve the environment that is being done in Michigan. We know that other courts across the country will also be inspired to take action.

Richter hopes golfers will take note of the environmental work done at Michigan’s Magnificent 10 courses and challenges other courses to do the same.

“The more we can work together, the faster we can see positive change for our courses, our communities and the planet,” Richter said.
