Plains Commerce Bank to build ‘exciting new location’ in Mitchell – Mitchell Republic

A new era is on the horizon for the corner of Havens Avenue and Burr Street in Mitchell, as Plains Commerce Bank plans to add another branch to the busy intersection.

After the bank recently purchased Chef Louie’s Steakhouse and Lounge restaurant, which had stood on the corner of Havens Avenue and Burr Street for nearly a century, and the adjacent Corn Palace Motel property, it paved the way for the Plains Commerce Bank to expand its Mitchell footprint.

Plains Commerce Bank officials say the expansion plan is a move that will “better serve and meet the needs” of customers in the Mitchell area, according to a bank press release. The Mitchell Republic contacted local Plains Commerce Bank officials regarding future expansion plans, but no calls were returned prior to the publication of this story.

“We are excited about this opportunity for Plains Commerce Bank, but more importantly for the Mitchell community,” said Jill Luque, executive vice president of Mitchell’s Plains Commerce Bank, in a press release. “Plains Commerce Bank believes in putting our energy and resources into the communities we serve. We believe this exciting new location will allow us to welcome our customers, the community, surrounding areas and visitors right in the heart of the city. »

Plains Commerce Bank officials said the new bank will replace Chef Louie’s restaurant, located at 601 E. Havens Ave. The new facility is expected to be completed by 2023, according to bank officials.

While crews recently demolished the Corn Palace Motel – which was located west of Chef Louie’s – the restaurant remains. But on January 8, 2022, the local staple will close.

“Plains Commerce Bank is committed to taking action here in our hometown to achieve our community’s goals and vision for Mitchell’s future. This new structure will be a mainstay of Mitchell for decades to come, and we will forever honor Chief Louie’s legacy in this corner,” Luque said in a statement.

Plains Commerce Bank’s first operation in Mitchell began in 2012 when the bank opened a loan origination office with longtime Mitchell native Doug Krantz. After experiencing continued growth, Plains Commerce Bank transformed into a full-service bank from its location at 1130 S. Burr St. – where the bank is located in Mitchell.

What started as a two-person team at the head of the bank has since grown to nine banking professionals.

“Opening a Mitchell branch in 2015 was a big step forward for Plains Commerce Bank as a business. We believed then, as we still believe today, that we had common ground. with members of the Mitchell community. Our Midwestern roots are well represented at Mitchell, and like you, we believe that the best way to lead is through action,” said Luque.

While some local residents wonder if Chef Louie’s plans to open at another location in Mitchell, the press release says the Fredericksen family, owners of Chef Louie’s since 2001, are considering such plans.

In the press release, members of the Fredericksen family said, “God already knows our plans for Chef Louie’s, we’re just waiting for him to tell us.
